Borrowed Breath
And the Lord God formed man…
and breathed into his nostrils
the breath of life… Genesis 2:7
We all live on borrowed breath,
an allotment given to each man –
some more, some less.
According to God’s plan,
fish swim the sea,
animals roam the land,
birds fill the sky,
plants grow everywhere,
and man is given dominion.
Willing or not
we share this earth with all life,
until our last breath
returns to its Source,
where we must account
for our stewardship.
